There is something undeniably comforting about a golden, savory stuffed mushroom. As a staple offering available for your events at the Hostess House, these savory bites are one of our most requested appetizers!
Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes in the Mansion kitchen to share the exact steps, chef secrets, and fresh ingredients we use to prepare them from scratch.
🧽 Step 1: Prep & Cleaning
Great stuffed mushrooms begin with gentle prep.
Chef's Tip: Always wipe your mushrooms clean with a damp towel rather than submerging them in water! Mushrooms act just like sponges—if you submerge them, they will absorb water, resulting in a soggy final dish.
Gently snap out the stems and set the hollowed mushroom caps aside in a pan. Finely chop the stems alongside fresh onions—we’ll be using those stems to build our savory filling, so nothing goes to waste!
🍳 Step 2: Sautéing the Aromatized Base
In a hot skillet with butter, sauté the finely chopped mushroom stems and onions together until the mushrooms are deep golden brown and the onions become soft and translucent. Add minced garlic right at the end, sautéing for just 1 to 2 minutes until aromatic.
🧀 Step 3: Mixing the Creamy Filling
Remove the skillet from the heat and drop cream cheese directly into the warm pan, stirring as it melts evenly into the mushroom and onion mixture. Next, fold in shredded Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, dried parsley, salt, and cracked black pepper until a rich, hold-together filling forms (see 20260724_152357.jpg).
🥄 Step 4: Stuffing the Caps
Spoon the savory filling neatly into each prepped mushroom cap.
Chef's Tip: Be careful not to overstuff! Mushrooms naturally shrink slightly as they cook in the oven, and overstuffing will cause the filling to spill over the sides.
🔥 Step 5: The Golden Oven Bake
Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and cooked through, and the breadcrumb-parmesan tops turn a beautiful, light golden brown.
Best served warm straight from the oven, these bite-sized appetizers are crispy on top, rich and creamy in the center, and packed with savory herb flavor!
